The CTCR releases this new service about the calculation of the carbon footprint and provides companies with the necessary tools proposed in the UNE-EN ISO 14040:2006 (Environmental management. Life cycle Analysis. Principles and scope of reference)

The objective of calculating the carbon footprint is to obtain the global quantity of the GEI emission throughout the life cycle of a product. The ecologic footprint is an indicator of sustainability measuring the impact generated by a population (expressed in hectares of ecosystem or nature) and employed by the companies and organizations. It is called corporate ecologic footprint.

It is necessary to reduce global GEI emissions to attain a slowing down of global warming. This is the main goal expressed in the Kyoto Protocol; a worldwide agreement from 1997. Having come into force in 2005, the protocol establishes a reduction of global GEI emissions for year 2012 of 8% in comparison with figures in 1990. The main entities that regulate and/or fight against global warming are:

-          The Kyoto Protocol

-          Emissions trade: European Directive 2003/87/CE and Law 1/2005

-          National Plan of Assignation of Emissions (R.D. 1866/2004 and R.D. 60/2005)

-          Strategy of energy saving and efficiency

-          Plan of Public Works about renewable energies

-          Mechanisms of clean development and joint intervention

The CTCR has been working for the last 2 years on environmental improvements and deeply believes that, should companies integrate the eco-efficiency concept into their organization, they would automatically improve their global profits and consolidate their results with investments in new markets and new capital. If we want to take action, we need to firstly calculate our rate of sustainability and make it progressively better until we become totally sustainable.

The CTCR launches the carbon footprint service to make all companies aware of their impact on the environment and commit them to taking action and to using this indicator to become totally sustainable.

The CTCR counts on a professional tool, the software Simapro 7.3 that allows it to perform a life cycle analysis (LCA) and evaluate the environmental impacts of products, processes and services through the usage of databases from an internal stock list (created by the user) and bibliographic lists (BUWAL, IDEMAT, ETH, IVAM, etc). Simparo allows the life cycle analysis of a product or a service in a systematic and transparent way, through the analysis and graphic representation of the complex cycles according to the recommendations of ISO 14040. Anticipating the compliance with new regulations allows companies to move forward with product competitiveness, a more solid efficiency and more attractive products in the market. The CTCR uses various professional and technical means to successfully develop the carbon footprint and promptly get a sustainable development for our planet.

HOW TO KNOW THE CARBON FOOTPRINT

Why not anticipate regulations and take action as soon as possible? Why wait for it to be too late? Thanks to this service, companies can know their carbon footprint and create the necessary international standards, establish an entrepreneurial strategy of sustainability, and discover the opportunities and the risks related to the carbon footprint of products and services of the company.
